A two-fer! Ryan’s pastor came in and asked me to patch up the neck of his faaavorite jacket. He asked if maybe I could put in a strip of leather as well to protect if from more tear. “No problem!” I cried, slapping my knee. Cut to two days later, as I’m poring over a really gorgeous piece of Italian leather Avery scored from the Knoll factory in Pennsylvania. He claims it’s a leftover scrap from the fabrication of their Barcelona chair.

Now the interweb is telling me it was designed by Mies van der Rohe..how’s that for a name drop?
Leatherwork! Here are a series of images showing the process. I didn’t have any formal leatherworking tools so I had to improvise a bit. Here’s after the first day:

The jacket is black cotton material, and the leather is Mies van der Rohe brown (or I guess “dark brown” is the more formal term). Here’s halfway into the second day:

I had to camp out at home to make sure I would finish this crrrazy projekt. And I’m one stitch away from finishing. Here are the last pictures from the second day of the leatherwork, fourth day of the experiment:

I think it’s shaping up jus peachy keen.
